How We Worship

We gather together each Sunday believing that God has set apart this day for this purpose. We begin the Lord’s Day with a morning service and end the Lord’s Day with an evening service. God is worshiped in reverence, and the preaching of His Word is at the center of our worship service. We believe that the truth of Scripture found in the Old & New Testament is God’s Word inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error (2 Timothy 3:16) and profess the Three Forms of Unity: the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dordt. When We Worship

In addition to our regular worship services twice each Sunday, we gather for these special services throughout the year: New Year’s Day, Prayer Day, Good Friday, Ascension Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Sacraments

Heidelberg Catechism Q. 68: How many sacraments has Christ instituted in the new covenant, or testament? A. Two, namely, holy baptism, and the holy supper. As God’s Word teaches and is reinforced in this creed, we hold to the two sacraments of infant baptism and the Lord’s supper. As Reformed believers, we believe that children of God’s people are included in the covenant and therefore receive this sign and seal of Christ’s washing away of our sins. We celebrate the Lord’s supper four times a year (the third weeks of March, June, September, and December) and do so in remembrance of Christ’s broken body and shed blood for us, His elect.

Offerings

“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s: it is holy unto the Lord” (Leviticus 27:30). God has blessed us beyond measure and everything we have is God’s. We support denominational and local causes with our tithes and offerings. Some of these causes include our General Fund, Building Fund, Evangelism Fund, and Benevolent Fund; the PRC Emeritus Fund, Domestic & Foreign Missions, the Standard Bearer; the Reformed Witness Hour; Beacon Lights, the Reformed Free Publishing Association, Reformed Heritage Christian School, Park Village Pines, and the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.

Music

“O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1). As mentioned many times throughout the Bible, God is worshiped by singing and music. We believe that God has given us the gift of song and music to glorify Him. During worship services, we sing the Psalms with use of the 1912 Psalter, and our singing is accompanied by organ or piano. We sometimes hold evening hymn sings.
